Have you ever thought about using Clay for Hair and Scalp Care? We have listed a few recipes here using clay, but did you want to know more about using it effectively?

Some users really wanted us to do a post on using Clay for Hair & Scalp Care. So users who requested it & everyone who is interested in knowing more about it – here you go!

So, the type of clay that works will vary according to your scalp and hair type. However, we’re going to look at why clay is a good option for hair care and what clays are ideal and when.

Clays are ideal for washing hair and scalp – they get rid of dirt, grime and residue real quick. Your scalp will feel free to breathe after the first wash with clay! Isn’t that great?

So, it is real tempting to prepare your hair clay ready for use and store it in your shelf – but think again! You don’t want to worry about mold, bacteria and what not! So, whatever clay or clay mixture you are using, mix it up and keep it ready. Use water or rose water to prepare the clay just before your hair wash. Yes, it does put a damper on the plan to keep a cozy lot for use anytime – but we want to keep everything as natural as possible. Right?

Do you know you can add Herbs to your Clay to make it more beneficial? Preparing herbal clay mixture for washing your hair and scalp is a great idea. We added one such recipe on our blog recently. Powdered Aloe Vera, Marshmallow Root Powder, Slippery Elm Powder, Henna Powder, Bamboo Powder, Horsetail Powder, Nettle Powder, Hair Fruit Powder, Margosa Leaf Powder, etc. are a few choices you can consider.

I like to use my lotion pump for clay pack – I prepare a fairly runny solution and then pump the solution directly and work my way from there. For those who find applying clay difficult can give this a try. Not sure if it will work for everyone though.

One important thing to remember – don’t leave the clay for long on your scalp. Wash off after a minute or so – leaving it too long can leave your hair and scalp a tad dry. This can be difficult for those with curly hair.

You can use Milk, Rose Water, Aloe Juice, Glycerin, Honey, Rice Water, ACV, etc. to make the clay paste. These options are better than water and can add hydration and moisture. You can use one or combinations of the ingredients listed here depending on how you like it. My favorite is the affordable and easiest Rice Water, though I use Rose Water along with water when I don’t have Rice Water.

So, what are the options for Clay? There’s Bentonite Clay, Kaolin Clay, Rhassoul Clay, Fuller’s Earth, French Green Clay, etc. You can use any clay that you have handy, is available in your country or area, or like to use. The results will vary with the clay, according to their properties. However, choosing clay that’s ideal for your scalp type works best. Don’t worry – we can’t cover all this in just one post, so yes, we will be doing more than one post on this. So, stay tuned for more!
