We’ve been seeing more on washing hair right. Along the same lines, we’re going to look at the don’ts of hair wash today.
Ready for the ride, everyone? There are many hair myths and beliefs and sayings, it is really difficult to keep a track of what’s right and wrong. We’re looking to talk about the most common practices, beliefs and put them together with one place and explain what’s right or wrong. That way, you can pick and choose what you want to follow ☺
Using Shampoo Twice
Many think the first time shampooing is to get rid of dirt and the second time is for eliminating remaining dirt or residue. On the contrary, shampooing once is more than enough! If you wash your hair twice or thrice a week, there’s no need for shampooing more than once. Doing that will only strip off your natural oils and leave your hair dry and vulnerable to damage. The only exception to this might be oil bath – where you either apply a lot of oil before showering or when you use an oil pack, where the first time doesn’t leave your hair clean enough. But this is not always, you will know when you hair is still oily and needs extra shampooing.
Toweling Your Hair Dry
Many rub their hair and scalp rigorously after shower till it is fully dry. This can cause considerable damage, besides leaving your scalp stripped off. Blot off excess water and gently pat your hair with towel and then, let it air dry.
Using Hot Water after Conditioning
If you use a rinse-off conditioner, don’t use hot water to rinse it off. Using cold water seals your cuticles and retains moisture. So, use cold water to rinse off conditioner or as your final rinse.
Don’t Wash Your Hair Daily
We have already discussed this point a lot. However, it is very important that we’re repeating it under don’ts. Many think it is OK to wash their hair everyday to look good. But it is not! Washing hair everyday will leave it vulnerable to damage. Wash your hair twice a week, at most. Thrice is only for those with very oily hair, or for those who travel a lot and expose their hair to a lot of pollution and stuff – even so their hair will be more prone to damage, so keep washing at minimum.
Don’t use HOT Water to Wash your Hair
We all know it is very relaxing to wash off with HOT water, especially after a hectic, tiresome or long day. However, using hot water on your strands will leave it dry, vulnerable – as the cuticles would not be sealed when using hot water and stripped off vital nutrients and oil. If you must use hot water for whatever reason – you can’t use cold water due to health, you can use lukewarm water.
