DIY Rosemary Shampoo Spray

What are your options when you want to spruce up your hair without washing it? We can’t always wash hair to make it look good for various reasons.

So when short for time or when you can’t wash, but need to look good, dry shampoo is one of your options. It’s a quick way to wash or clean your hair without actually doing it.

Wondering how spraying shampoo on your hair can get the job done? Well when excess oil is absorbed hair becomes lighter and volume is added, making your locks look voluminous and lustrous again.

Most shampoos off shelves are priced high and are laden with chemicals. By going DIY you not only save but also get a shampoo that doesn’t harm or damage your hair. You can use this between washes or for those times when you can’t wash your hair but need to spruce up real quick.

Distilled Water – ¼ Cup

Arrowroot Powder – 1 Tbsp.

Vodka – 1 Tbsp.

Rosemary Essential Oil – 4 Drops

Nothing special! Just add all the ingredients to the spray dispenser and shake to combine.

How to Use the Shampoo?

Shake – the starch tends to get settled at the bottom of the dispenser.

Hold the spray dispenser 3 – 4” away from your hair.

Spray on your hair till it is damp – you can spray it just where you need.

Use your blow dryer and dry your hair. You can air dry too, but especially when doing this for any occasion blow drying gives better results.

Style as usual.

Spray or Powder?

Both have their places when you want to use dry shampoo. I have used dry powdered shampoo when I want to curb scalp’s sebum levels or for adding volume. In most cases powdered shampoos is when you have probably styled or when you have time. Spray shampoo works best for all situations but mostly when you’re looking to curb oil levels and keep things easier. However the results are different and so are our individual preferences. So, try out and see what works for you and when. Both work for getting rid of oil or for sprucing up between showers, but we all have our likes and dislikes.

Tips

Use a spray bottle with larger nozzle to prevent clogging.

If it does get clogged however, rinse out with hot water to get it to work again.

I have noticed that if I rinse out after every use that prevented clogging in most cases.

Why this Recipe?

I found that this doesn’t leave spots of white on my hair after use – with dark hair this is an important consideration when using dry shampoos.

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

You can use Corn Starch instead of Arrowroot powder – if you have normal or oily scalp. Arrowroot is especially better for those with sensitive scalp.

You can swap Vodka for Rubbing Alcohol or Vice Versa. However, Rubbing Alcohol is more drying comparatively so ideal if you have oily or greasy scalp.

You can use any essential oil(s) of your choice especially citrus essential oils, bergamot essential oil, lemon grass essential oil, etc.

You can add a dash of Cocoa Powder – especially if you have dark hair and this is leaving spots on your hair.

You can add Witch Hazel instead of Water or along with it partly to combat itching – it is sometimes caused due to the starch or itchy scalp condition.

As always, keep us posted with your results and let us know how you like it. Were you able to tweak this a bit? Don’t have time for DIY? Try Vitamins range of products using Keratin and Argan Oil for hair and scalp care. Questions or feedback or requests? Do writ to us. We love hearing from you!
