So, we’ve already seen a few ways to rock the beach waves without hitting the beach. Here’s another salt spray recipe, so you can sport beachy waves when the mood strikes you ☺
Not everyone has ocean in their backyard, so when the mood strikes for beachy waves, what to do? A long drive to sea? What if sea isn’t in your city? Not all cities have a shoreline, after all ☺ That’s when salt sprays come in handy! Don’t they?
It is a nice bonus that salt spray adds volume to your hair and enhances your waves or curls. I had a batch of Red Sea Salt, so wanted to use that here. Let’s learn how to do the spray, shall we?
Ingredients
Aloe Juice – 1 Oz.
Red Sea Salt – 2 Tbsp.
Dead Sea Salt – 1 Tbsp.
Magnesium Flakes – 1 Tsp.
Instructions
Add the Aloe Juice to mixing bowl and add the salts to it.
Gently stir till the salts dissolve.
Transfer contents to a sterilized spritzer and use as needed.
Tips to Tweak the Recipe
You can add Germaben or Optiphen ND to the recipe as a preservative. If you are adding, add it when the salt combines and before pouring to the spritzer. I prepare smaller batches, so don’t use preservatives.
You can add water along with Aloe Juice, or if you are allergic to Aloe Juice substitute it with distilled water.
You can also add Glycerin to the recipe for softer curls – I add Glycerin when I don’t add Aloe.
If you have blonde hair, Honey is a good addition. It also adds a nice shine to blonde curls.
You can also add Essential Oils, or Hydrosols for added aroma. If you are using Essential Oil, shake well before use, as oil tends to separate. I have used Hydrosols with good results, though.
If you don’t want to use preservatives, but want to prepare larger batches, go for Distilled Aloe instead of Aloe Juice. My friend says it is more shelf stable and you don’t need a preservative when using it.
I have used Red Sea Salt, though any natural salt works.
How to Use the Spray?
Air-dry your hair. Shake the spritzer. Now, spray the salt spray to your hair and let it dry for a bit. Scrunch or twist for added curls 😉
Want to add volume? Spray the salt spray on your hair, down to your root and blow dry.
Why Use Red Sea Salt?
Sea Salt in general is good. But Red Sea Salt, Dead Sea Salt and other exotic salts are know for their rich mineral content and other unique properties. So, if you get them, use them in your recipes. If not, any Sea Salt works good ☺
