Why These Ingredients?
Glycerin (Vegetable Glycerin) is a great moisturizer and humectant that rivals Honey in my opinion. So, I often swap this for Honey in my recipes, as this doesn’t lighten or bleach hair. So, if your hair is brittle and dry, nothing helps it like Glycerin. It absorbs moisture from the surroundings and also helps your hair retain moisture, due to the humectant properties.
Both Sesame and Apricot Oils are light and don’t leave your hair greasy or weigh it down. However, you can substitute Sesame Oil with Argan Oil or reduce Sesame Oil and add Argan Oil in its place, for a lighter version.
We all know Aloe Vera is a cooling, healing and nourishing herb that does wonders for your hair. It also moisturizes your hair and helps it regain the lost vitality and sheen. With dry and brittle hair, frizz and tangles are a common problem. Aloe Vera can curb that too!
Vitamin E Oil is not only a preservative, but also a nourishing ingredient. However, if you find the version greasy, bring Vitamin E Oil down by a notch.
Tips to Tweak the Recipe
You can also add nourishing, moisturizing and soothing Essential Oils like Chamomile or Lavender to this recipe. It also gives the recipe a nice aroma, which is handy for those who want to mask Aloe Vera or Sesame Oil smell.
You can increase the Glycerin used in the recipe based on your requirements and preference.
