DIY Marshmallow Rinse

When you have curly, any help with detangling is really welcomed! So, when I was looking at an easy way to detangle my niece’s I found Marshmallow is a lifesaver.

I wanted to keep the recipe simple and easier. I did not want anything complicated and decided on a hair rinse. I wanted this rinse to make detangling easier and keep hair from bundling up together after hair wash. I also wanted to add a little something to combat dryness and frizz, so I added a little Aloe Vera for it. Other than that, the recipe is real simple and quite easy to prepare.

Let’s take a look at the recipe, shall we?

Ingredients

Water – ½ Cup
Marshmallow Root – 2 Tsp.
Lavender Essential Oil – a few drops
Aloe Vera Gel – 1 Tsp.

Instructions

In a bowl, heat the water and add the Marshmallow Root to it.

Let it sit for about 15 minutes.

Strain and set aside.

Now, remove the gel from Aloe Vera Leaf and wash thoroughly.

When it cools down, add it to your blender with the Aloe Vera Gel and whip it for a minute or two.

Remove it in a vessel and add in the Lavender Essential Oil.

Done!

How to Use the Rinse?

Add more water to make this ½ – 1 liter, so it is easier for rinsing.

Use this as your final rinse after hair wash and rinse out with water.

Pout the rinse on your hair and massage for a few seconds before rinsing out with water.

Air dry, detangle and style as usual.

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

Lavender Essential Oil is entirely optional. However, you can also swap it for other oils if you are using.

Aloe Vera Gel is optional and can be skipped. The marshmallow alone works good.

You an also add other ingredients besides Marshmallow Root to help with detangling, but I found these two work really well. A few options include Ladies Finger extract, Hibiscus Tea, Flax Seed Gel, Chia Seed Gel, etc.

Why These Ingredients?

While the ingredients aren’t much, Marshmallow Root offers the slip that makes detangling real easy.

Aloe Vera also helps along, is hydrating and makes detangling easier and offers the much needed nourishment and moisture for your hair.

You can add other similar ingredients and they add their own uniqueness to the recipe.

The best part about the recipe is that it is simple but effective. Feel free to add your own tweaks to it and make it yours! Like every other recipe, this one can be tweaked too. Do keep us posted with your results, finds or write to us if you have any queries.
