DIY Lightening Hair Spray for Shine n Sheen

Want to add shine to your golden locks, or just lighten your locks? Do you know hair sprays can help you with that?

So, making a hair spray that can do multiple things isn’t difficult. If you know what ingredients can do what, you can easily whip up your own hair styling and caring recipes on the fly.

Hair sprays have long been used for styling hair but also for other benefits like shine, sheen, hair strengthening, moisturizing, etc. depending on the ingredients the purposes or benefits can vary.

I wanted to prepare a hair spray that would add shine to golden locks, and also lighten hair a notch. I decided to use Chamomile for this, as I am more interesting in lightening and shine, than giving a golden hue for the locks.

This recipe has all but 3 – 4 ingredients. So, you’re ready to get started?

Ingredients

Chamomile Tea – 1 Cup
Lemon Juice – 1 Tbsp.
Argan Oil – 1 Tsp.
Aloe Vera Gel – 1 Tsp.

Instructions

In a spritzer add all the given ingredients – if you’re using fresh aloe vera gel whisk it in your blender first.

Shake well and you’re done!

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

If you just want added shine and not lightening, you can skip the Lemon Juice.

You can also use Chamomile Essential Oil though I like Chamomile Tea better.

You can use any carrier oil of your choice, but Argan has always been my favorite, followed by Jojoba and Sweet Almond Oil when am looking at something light and nourishing.

If you want to brighten your golden locks, use Rhubarb Root Tea instead of Chamomile Tea and skip the Lemon Juice.

You can also use floral water or herbal extracts according to your requirements – Rose Water, Rosemary Antioxidant Extract, Lavender Hydrosol, etc.

Shelf Life

This spray will last a week when refrigerated – we’re using natural ingredients and no preservatives – so keep it in your refrigerator after use.

How to Use the Spray?

Detangle your hair. Hold the spritzer slightly away from your head and spray on your locks. Style as usual.

Like every other recipe, feel free to tweak the recipe for your needs, requirements and preferences. I like to add a dash of Rose Water for added aroma and smoothness of hair strands. I like the floral and soothing aroma of Rose, though Lavender also works similarly. So, try different things and identify what you like best – that’s the best part about DIY right?
