Growing out your hair can be challenging with dryness or lack of proper hair nourishment and protection. Want a recipe that will do all that, so you can grow out your hair longer?
I wanted to prepare a simple but effective recipe, with less ingredients so it’s not confusing. Let’s get started, shall we?
Ingredients
Avocado Butter – 1 Tbsp.
Cocoa Butter – ½ Tbsp.
Mango Butter – ¼ Cup
Argan Oil – 1 Tbsp.
Extra Virgin Olive Oil – 1 Tbsp.
Vitamin E Oil – 1 Tsp.
Kokum Oil – 2 Tbsp.
Vanilla Essential Oil – a few drops
Instructions
Melt the butters in your double boiler. Don’t have a double boiler? No worries, prepare a makeshift double boiler easily!
Now, add the oils inside the melted butter.
Stir to combine.
Refrigerate the mixture for a while. It should be refrigerated until the mixture turns opaque but not hard – this takes minutes to an hour or less, depending on your refrigerator and temperature.
When the mixture is ready – you’re set to begin whipping!
You can whip the mixture using your hand blender or Food Processor till it’s fluffy.
Add the Essential Oil slowly while whipping.
When you’ve got the fluffy butter – stop whipping and transfer to a sterilized jar.
Done!
Shelf Life
This lasts a few months but I would recommend marking the use by date on the bottle based on the shelf life of the ingredients.
Also smaller batches so you can whip fresh batches every other month is ideal – keeps the butter fluffy, fresh and yes, you can experiment with the ingredients or aromas of your choice.
Tips to Tweak the Recipe
I like Kokum Oil – it’s infused carrier oil, though you can use any other carrier or infused oil of your choice.
You can consider experimenting with Coconut Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Jojoba Oil, Sesame Oil, Castor Oil, etc. Also, herb-infused oils like False Daisy, Aloe Vera, Black Cumin Seeds, Curry Leaves, Moringa Leaves, etc. are ideal for promoting healthier hair and scalp.
You can use any hair beneficial essential oil like Rosemary, Myrrh, Sandalwood, Geranium, Lavender, Tea Tree, Peppermint, Lemon Eucalyptus, etc.
You can also add Glycerin or Honey for added nourishment and moisture – they’re both good humectants.
If you don’t want more than a couple of butters, or oils, feel free to go with what suit you best. If you’re looking for a neutral butter that works well for anyone, it’s Shea, but since this is predominantly for dealing with dryness chose richer butters like Cocoa.
How to Use the Hair Butter?
Take a small dollop and apply sparsely on your hair strands and comb through. Style as usual. Don’t forget the tips, though don’t go too liberal near the roots especially if you have oily scalp.
