DIY Herbal Hair Spray

Going natural doesn’t have to be pricey, or cut a hole in your budget. You could whip up real effective products with ingredients that are handy, more often than not.

Having that said, not everything is always available or handy and ready. Sometimes, it takes more than few tries to get a recipe or product right, it is challenging to replicate some products and then improvise to make it comparable to commercially available ones, and whatnot!

Styling products especially, cost a fortune and some are tricky to replicate. The good news is, you can in most cases and will get good results when you try and get it right. The best part – you hair will thank you after and it will show – your locks will be healthy and lustrous.

Hairspray is one product many of us love. We use it for different reasons and purposes, the ingredients varying according to it. However, most cost a lot. You know what – it is easy to get hair spray right without much ado and it won’t cost you a lot! Being a lover of using herbs for my hair and skin care, I wanted to try a herbal hair spray.

Ingredients

Water – 1 Cup
Sugar – 2 Tbsp.
Herbs of your Choice

Instructions

Seep the herbs or boil the herbs to get infused water – I used Hibiscus, False Daisy and Fenugreek.

I let it boil and simmer until it reduced to ½ quantity.

I added sugar and stirred till it combined – after it cooled down.

Added to a spritzer and it was ready.

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

You can use Hydrosols or Essential Oils here – I used hydrosols – I Love Rose for this purpose (it makes hair softer) – I seep it by adding the petals after heat is turned off. I also use Jasmine, Lavender, etc.

However, if you are using Essential Oils, make sure to shake before every use.

I also noticed Lemon Grass along with other herbs can keep bugs at bay – in case you have that problem, or Lemon Eucalyptus oil.

You can also use Honey, Glycerin, Aloe Juice, etc. I noticed using Aloe Juice, Glycerin or Honey adds a nice sheen to my locks.

If you want to add texture, you can also use a little salt to the recipe.

You can also add lemon or citrus peels for citrus aroma, or orange blossom water if you want citrusy fresh aroma.

How to Use It?

Just spray over your hair and wait for a minute. Style as usual. If needed, spray again till it covers your hair surface.

This gives a good hold, so you can reduce sugar or increase it based on your requirements.

As always, play around with the ingredients to get a recipe that’s yours – perfect for you and signature style for your needs, preferences and requirements. That’s the fun of DIYing, right?
