DIY Herbal Graying Reversal Hair Oil

We’ve all been there – while one or two gray hairs doesn’t bother anyone, we all want to know how to reverse the graying and get hair’s natural color back. Don’t we?

While we can tell styling or coloring to avoid questions, we all do wonder if there was a way to reverse graying. Trust me – at one point or the other we all think that. The good news is that – you can reverse premature graying and even delay graying of hair and keep the natural hair color last longer. How do we do that?

There are different recipes in Ayurveda for hair care and recipes that prevent premature graying and reverse premature graying are many. We’re going to see another recipe – we’ve already seen one with Alkanet Root, remember? So, this is yet another recipe to add to that list.

For those who wanted another option, here you go. Let’s take a look at the recipe first. Shall we?

Ingredients

Sesame Oil / Coconut Oil – 250 Ml
Curry Leaves – a Handful
False Daisy Leaves – a Handful
Dwarf Copperlead – a Handful
Henna Leaves – a Handful
Onion Seeds – 1 Tsp.
Fenugreek Seeds – 1 Tsp.
Spikenard Root – a small piece
Chrysopogon Zizanioides – a small piece

Instructions

In a deep and hard bottomed iron pan, heat the oil.

When the oil is hot add all the ingredients listed and simmer for a few minutes.

When the moisture is fully removed and the oil changes color – there’s no spluttering (indicating moisture) remove from heat.

Let it sit for a while to cool down.

Filter and transfer to a sterilized jar and use as needed.

Why These Ingredients?

The leaves listed above – Curry Leaves, False Daisy Leaves, Henna Leaves and Dwarf Copperleaf are widely used in hair and scalp care in Ayurveda for their hair and scalp beneficial properties. Not only do they promote better hair growth, they also help with reversing graying.

Spikenard and Vetiver make the oil fragrant but also render their own benefits to this oil.

You can use any carrier oil you like, though this oil is prepared with Sesame Oil or Coconut Oil traditionally.

If you don’t get fresh leaves you can use dry powders. If you are using dry powders, make a paste of the powders and add to the oil slowly. Let it simmer till all the moisture is eliminated.

Onion Seeds promote better hair growth and Fenugreek Seeds conditions and leaves it soft and silky among other things.

You can also add Rose Petals or Sandalwood Powder for added fragrance or benefits.

How to Use the Hair Oil?

Massage the oil to your scalp using your fingers. This can be used as a daily oil, though for those who don’t prefer oil while going out, let it sit for an hour or overnight before washing off.
