We all use Hair Gel, Mousse, Setting Lotion or Sprays and what not to make styling and retaining style easier. Today, we’re going to see a Gel that works well for setting your hair.
If you use Hair Styling products and always worried about the number of chemicals and other additives that go in, this recipe is just what you need. You can indulge without feeling bad – this recipe is all-natural and doesn’t harm your hair.
Ingredients
Aloe Vera Gel – ½ Cup
Distilled Water – 2 Tbsp.
Sugar – 2 Tbsp.
Vitamin E Oil – ½ Tsp.
Magnesium Oil – 1 Tbsp.
Argan Oil – 1 Tsp.
Lavender Essential Oil – 7 Drops
Instructions
Dissolve the sugar in distilled water.
Add all the other ingredients to a mixing bowl and whip the ingredients using a hand blender.
Transfer to sterilized jar and refrigerate.
How to Use the Gel?
After washing your hair, air dry and apply this gel to your strands when slightly damp or dry.
Use a blow dryer without heat to fasten the process of drying this and style as usual.
Just remember, little goes a long way – you need only a small dollop. You don’t have to apply this liberally.
Tips to Tweak the Recipe
I prefer a gel consistency, so stuck with this. However, if you prefer a spray, add more distilled water and convert this to a spray.
For gel consistency, you can also add a dash of Gelatin or China Grass Powder.
You can use any essential oil you like for fragrance or for their hair related benefits.
Sugar gives a nice hold, especially if you have curly hair. However, if you are worried about bugs or bacterial infestation, you can skip it. Since the recipe is refrigerated, it shouldn’t be a problem though.
You can prepare your own Magnesium Oil instead of buying it. It is very simple – just add Magnesium Flakes to hot water and you have the oil. I use about ½ Cup of Flakes for ¼ Cup. Heat it till the flakes dissolves and voila!
It is important to remember Aloe Vera Gel is predominantly water and the consistency can turn runny especially when you don’t add any gelling agents. However, it still works – the runny consistency happens when it not refrigerated more often.
While you can use fresh Aloe Vera Gel, make sure you add a little Vitamin C to it to ensure shelf life. Also, make sure you cleanse the Aloe Leaves well before extracting the gel. It is very important and many are allergic to the sap of aloe.
Shelf Life
I use the gel within a week or two. However, you can keep it longer since it is refrigerated, though discard if it smells or looks funny!
