Ingredients
Coconut Milk – 2 Tbsp.
Argan Oil – 1 Tsp.
Lavender Essential Oil – 7 Drops
Liquid Castile Soap – 3 Tbsp.
Instructions
First, let’s take a look at how to extract coconut milk. It’s very simple & easy really. Take a matured coconut and remove the flesh from the shell – you can either cut it into small pieces and add to your mixer, or scrape it and then extract milk.
The former is easier and quick. Add the cut pieces to your mixer. Grind it to a smooth paste adding little water or coconut water. Sieve it using filter / strainer (might have small particles) or use cheesecloth to extract the milk.
Alternatively, you can scrape / grate the coconut. Add the grated coconut to cheesecloth and squeeze to get the milk. This is a traditional method to extract coconut milk.
Add all the ingredients (coconut milk, argan oil, liquid castile soap and essential oil of your choice) to a shampoo dispenser with pump and shake gently.
Done!
How to Use the Shampoo?
Use it like you would use your normal shampoo – remember this doesn’t foam as much and is much easier on your hair. You don’t need to apply a lot – just apply normal quantity or less. It still works!
Shelf Life
Since we add Coconut Milk to this Shampoo, it is important to refrigerate this after use – or prepare fresh every time. Use this the week it is prepare to keep the recipe fresh and effective.
Tips to Tweak the Recipe
You can use Soapnut Powder / Soapnut Concoction instead of Liquid Castile Soap to make it more hair and scalp friendly.
You can use any essential oil of your choice according to your preference, requirement and liking – Peppermint, Rosemary, Lavender, Clary Sage, Eucalyptus, Tea Tree Oil, Thyme, etc. are good options depending on what you need / expect from the oils.
You can use any carrier oil instead of Argan Oil – preferably ones rich in Vitamin E like Almond Oil will be good. Or you can use any oil and also add Vitamin E Oil along with it.
