Clay has been used in the cleansing of hair for a while now. We’ve seen one recipe using Rhassoul Clay for cleansing hair earlier. This is a different and more nourishing recipe and ideal for those who are having dull or dry hair.
Getting rid of the comforts we’re used to takes time, but a needed action when he toxins and chemicals are becoming a hazard to our health and environment. Even simple changes can go a long way. You don’t have to do all the changes at once, start slow and go from there. Using this Cleanser for your hair and scalp is one such change that’s ideal until you’re able to prepare your own Shampoo batches.
There’s also trial and error for everything … and it is the same for DIY too. You might like some better than the rest, you might have good results with some right away and some, not so much. Work with your recipes, tweak and make changes to get a recipe that works best for you. Let’s look at the recipe, shall we?
Ingredients
Coconut Milk
Rhassoul Clay
Argan Oil – 1 Tsp.
Glycerin – 1 Tsp.
Infused Water
Instructions
Prepare infused water with a herb or flower of your choice – Rose, Neem, Curry Leaves, Tea, False Daisy Leaves, Hibiscus, etc. Pick the one based on your requirement and suitability. You can also use good old distilled water and skip this step, or use it along with distilled water for added benefits.
If you are using flowers or tea, just pour hot water and let them seep. If you are using herbs or roots, you might need hot – boiling hot water, or sometimes boiling for infusing the water.
Prepare Coconut Milk from fresh coconuts, or you can use store-bought milk – fresh works best but when strapped for time, substitute with readily available options that don’t have preservatives.
We have discussed about coconut milk extraction in our previous recipes and this one is no different. Unlike what many claim, I prefer extracting milk from coconut without using warm or hot water. But you can use warm water if the coconut is really mature, or to make things faster.
There’s nothing special to prepare or do in this recipe, if you’re going with store-bought milk and skipping infused water. It’s just adding everything together and using the paste for your hair.
So, once you have your ingredients, mix everything in a mixing bowl to get a fairly thick paste – the consistency of a mask – not too think, not too runny either.
Done!
How to Use the Recipe?
Apply the paste on your hair and scalp and massage it through to your roots. You can use a shampoo comb if it helps with applying. Wait for a second or two and wash off. That’s all!
Tips to Tweak the Recipe
You can tweak the recipe according to your preference or requirement. Like I said earlier, use ingredients that are available and suitable for you for best results.
Glycerin is optional. You can also use Honey instead.
You can also use herbal powders instead of infusing if it is easier.
Rhassoul Clay has been used in skin and hair care for a while, though only making a comeback recently. Enjoy the benefits of this detox clay and share your results with us. You might need conditioner depending on the ingredients you use, especially if you have dry hair or scalp and chose to go with distilled water instead of Coconut Milk.
