DIY Chamomile Shampoo for Blonde Locks

Silky golden locks look like a dream when maintained well. However, they can get stained easily if wrong ingredients or products are used.

Using ingredients that enhance the sheen and shine of blonde hair, while maintaining the golden color is easy. This natural shampoo makes your blonde locks look gorgeous and shiny.

While those with dark locks don’t have to fret about a lot of ingredients, those with blonde or platinum blonde and other light shaded locks should be wary of ingredients that can be staining.  That’s why we have chosen mild ingredients that don’t ravage your golden locks. Ready everyone?

Ingredients

Grated Castile Soap – ¼ Cup

Chamomile Tea – 1 ½ Cups

Brewed Vinegar – ½ Tbsp.

Glycerin – 1 Tbsp.

Lavender Essential Oil – few drops

Instructions

Add 1 ½ Cups distilled water to a bowl and heat it.

Once heated add in chamomile petals and let it seep in.

Once steeped add Brewed Vinegar, Grated Castile Soap and Glycerin.

Add the essential oil and mix well.

Transfer to a sterilized jar.

Done!

Shelf Life

Keep this refrigerated as we use brewed chamomile tea in this recipe. Alternatively you can use Chamomile Tea Powder to prevent this and keep it longer.

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

You can use Tea Powder in the recipe – so you don’t have to brew tea instead use distilled water and tea powder. Many say this extends shelf life instead of using freshly brewed tea.

You can use Rhubarb in this recipe, especially if you would like to lighten your locks. Those with dirty blonde or light brown locks like the results, though it can lighten the locks for any shade. the results are just not that obvious for darker hair. Even so it is conditioning and helps soothe damaged hair.

If you like floral scents Jasmine is a great addition to Chamomile while brewing tea to combat the earthy aroma of Chamomile.

You can use Liquid Castile Soap instead of soap flakes. In this case use Powdered Teas, or brew stronger teas to prevent excess dilution.

You can use non-staining floral buds for added aroma white rose, champa buds, varieties of jasmine, etc.

Lavender Essential Oil is optional and can be skipped, or swapped with other essential oils of your choice.

You can also use plant extracts like Rosemary Antioxidant Extract to improve shelf life. It also promotes hair health and growth.

Hydrosols like Lavender or Rose are great additions to the recipe, especially if you like their aroma and don’t prefer essential oils. They also have great benefits to offer.

If you’re not scared to get your hands dirty you can use soap nuts instead of liquid castile soap, or castile soap flakes. You can soak soap nuts for a few hours and bring them to a boil to get a soapy liquid base you can use for shampoos.

How to Use the Shampoo?

Take enough shampoo in your palms (add a little water if it is thick and concentrated) and apply on your hair. Gently massage your scalp and apply the excess on your hair. Cleanse gently and wash off thoroughly.

Finish off with a conditioning herbal rinse or natural conditioner.

Air dry and style as usual.
