DIY Camellia Hair Balm

When your hair is long or when you’re trying to grow it out, you can see that it tends to get dry easily.

What to do about dry hair strands? Not only do they look lifeless, they’re also hard to manage and they fall on your face can be irritating. If you apply oil to the tips where it is usually dry, or hair strands, it looks oily till fully absorbed in. If you are looking for a nourishing way to combat these problems without your hair looking oily, you have it with this easy and effective DIY Camellia Hair Balm.

Alternatively you can do a makeshift double boiler and heat up the ingredients to melt and combine.

After it cools down add the essential oils and vitamin E oil.

Stir to combine.

Transfer to sterilized glass jars.

Refrigerate it for a few minutes -this prevents the Shea Butter from becoming grainy.

Done when the mixture sets.

How to use the Hair Balm?

Take a small dollop on your fingers and spread them around your fingers. Apply it to your hair strands, typically the tips. our hair. Alternatively use a bristle brush to comb through and spread evenly.

Remember

This is a light balm and should be absorbed readily. If it doesn’t get absorbed in right away you probably apply more. You can also comb through to spread the hair balm evenly.

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

If you have dry hair or flyaway or just like Cocoa Butter better, you can add it to this recipe. I did not add it to keep it light for my hair type. Those with dense volume or normal hair and scalp can add it. Shea Butter and Cocoa Butter can be used in equal quantities.

Coconut Oil and Olive Oil are great additions to this recipe. Again I wanted to use more of Jojoba and Argan Oil to keep it light and because I use those oils in other recipes for my hair.

You can increase or decrease Beeswax depending on your preference.

As for essential oils LemonGrass Oil, Eucalyptus Oil, Myrrh Essential Oil, etc. or any other hair beneficial essential oil can be added. Choose the oils you like best.

I also add a dash of Peppermint to keep it refreshing. Being in a tropical city I reduce or avoid Citrus essential oils when heading out.

As always, feel free to play around with the ingredients and see what you like. Yes, the results can vary depending on the swaps but as long as you like, and the results are good it’s a win-win.  Don’t have time to DIY your hair care recipes?
