If you are a beginner in DIY, or if you want to simplify your DIY recipes for hair care, or if you don’t have time in your hectic life, this recipe is just what you need. So, let’s get started!
Ingredients
Sesame Oil – 250 Ml
Betel Leaves – 10
Hibiscus Leaves – 25
Curry Leaves – 2 Handfuls
Holy Basil Leaves – 1 Handful
Instructions
If you get fresh ingredients, it is the best. If you don’t get fresh ingredients, go with infusion.
First, let’s see how to prepare the oil with fresh ingredients. Heat the Sesame Oil in a deep iron vessel.
When it is hot, add in all the ingredients and simmer it.
When the spluttering (due to moisture in the ingredients) stops and the oil turns a nice deep green, remove from heat.
Filter and let it cool down.
If you don’t get fresh ingredients, then go with infusion for getting the most from the ingredients.
For this, slightly warm the Sesame Oil and add it to a glass mason jar.
Now, add in all the dry ingredients to it – when adding dry ingredients the quantity can be a little lesser. The oil should fully cover the dry ingredients and there should be a little excess oil above the ingredients. This is important for proper infusion – don’t cramp the ingredients.
Now, leave the jar in the sun during the day and keep it inside and sealed at nights.
Do this for a week or two, till the oil changes color completely.
Filter and use as needed.
How to Use the Oil?
Store the oil in a sterilized glass jar. Use dry fingers or a spoon to get the oil out and always close the jar right after you remove oil for use.
Gently massage the oil into your scalp and apply the excess oil in your hands and fingers to the tips and hair strands.
Comb through to get the oil penetrate your hair shafts and roots.
Let it sit for a good 30 – 45 minutes before you wash off your hair. Always use herbal hair wash powder or a mild herbal shampoo for washing off your hair.
You can do this once or twice a week.
Tips to Tweak the Recipe
You can use Coconut Oil instead of Sesame Oil in this recipe.
A dash of Castor Oil if you are not prone to cold or sinus can help strengthen your hair and improve your hair volume.
