Dandruff Remedies – Part IV

We are looking at natural remedies for dandruff. As promised, here are more options for you to try.

Lemon & Coconut Oil

We’ve already seen how Coconut Oil can work wonders to deal with Dandruff. So, we have another remedy that uses Lemons and Coconut Oil. Take a spoon of Lemon Juice and enough Oil for your scalp. Mix them together and apply to your scalp massaging gently, as you go. Let it sit for 30 minutes before washing off. While Lemons restore pH balance, Coconut Oil helps with getting rid of Dandruff.

Green Apple

Apples

Take equal quantities of Apple Juice and Water and apply it to your scalp. Massage for a few seconds and let the mixture sit for 15 – 20 minutes before washing off. It works with apples that aren’t ripe as they have more procyanidin B-2, which promotes hair growth. Basically this mixture keeps your hair and scalp healthy and curbs dandruff, while also restoring your hair growth that was down due to dandruff.

Aloe Vera

Take ¼ Cup of Aloe Vera Gel and massage it to your scalp gently. Let it sit for 20 minutes before washing off. Do this twice a week for best results. Aloe Vera is antibacterial and also has fungicidal properties that will help beat dandruff naturally. It has characteristics similar to proteolytic enzymes, which break down proteins and dead skin cells, which means, it also exfoliates your scalp of dandruff.

Ginger

Take a piece of Ginger and grate it. Squeeze out the juice using cheesecloth and add enough Sesame Oil (2 – 3 spoons). Massage your scalp with this mixture and let it sit for 20 minutes before washing off. The active components of Ginger prevent Dandruff, while the anti-inflammatory properties promote hair growth.

Basil Leaves

Take a handful of Holy Basil Leaves, along with a Tablespoon of Indian Gooseberry Powder and enough water to make a paste. Apply this mixture on your scalp and let it sit for 30 minutes, before washing off. Rich in antifungal and antibacterial properties, Holy Basil helps eliminate Dandruff, while Indian Gooseberry promotes a healthier scalp and improved hair growth rate.

Henna

Take one spoon each of Indian Gooseberry Powder, Henna Leaves Powder, Lemon Juice, Tea Powder and Olive Oil or Coconut Oil. Mix well to get a paste, you can add more oil if needed. Apply the paste to your scalp and let it sit for 30 minutes before washing off. Rich in active ingredients, this mixture effectively eliminates dandruff and restores your hair and scalp health. However, if you have lighter hair (eg: blonde), I would suggest trying other options as Henna can stain your hair.

Castor Oil

Take a few spoons of Castor Oil. Castor Oil is thick and that it makes it difficult to apply. So dilute it by adding Coconut Oil, Olive Oil or any other Carrier Oil that you prefer. Apply this to your scalp and massage gently. You can leave it overnight; though if you are prone to cold and flu, or have respiratory issues, stick to 30 – 45 minutes. Rich in Ricin and Ricinoleic acid that make Castor Oil an effective antimicrobial, results are good when using it to treat Seborrheic Dermatititis. It is also a rich moisturizer and keeps your hair and scalp nourished and moisturized, leaving your hair shiny and healthy.
