In Ayurveda, Premature Greying is due to excess Pitta, but could also be due to Vata disturbance if hair loss is also present. Ayurveda has a lot of tips on dealing with the problem, preventing or even reversing it.

It could one of more of these causes, along with Pitta and / or Vata Imbalance. So, how do you deal with it?

What is Premature Greying?

They say growing old with grace and beauty – we all know grey hair is about experience. But what if those silvers start popping up here and there or cover most of your scalp when you’re in your 30s? Absolutely not! It’s not a sign of grace or elegance but premature greying, a condition that results in greying of your hair when you’re young.

What Can You do to Combat or Prevent Premature Greying?

Ayruveda recommends a host of remedial measures, preventive measures and preparations that will keep premature greying at bay. These also include lifestyle changes, as one’s hair health is a direct reflection of their health.

Ayurveda is incomplete without advice on food habits or lifestyle changes for any condition, or even for leading a healthy life. It isn’t any different or premature greying. There are scores of remedies used to treat different hair and scalp problem and with good results. Since body constitution, type and other factors are taken into consideration, with the right remedial measures, the results are lasting for many.

Eating Habits

A nourishing, healthy and balanced diet is important – balanced diet takes a different meaning in Ayurveda. A lot of emphasis is given on identifying one’s requirements for dietary regimen. That’s not all – all the six tastes (we can discuss more on this later, too) are important for a healthy life. More than just body requirements and constitution is taken into consideration when deciding on a diet regimen (heating, cooling, anti-inflammatory, immune-boosting, etc.).

Consuming foods that promote healthier hair like Curry Leaves, Dwarf Copperleaf, Bhringraj and using har care herbs like Shikakai, Neem, Henna, Tea, Onion, Mustard, Sesame Seeds and other ingredients are highly recommended.

Lifestyle Changes

Getting a good night’s sleep, getting enough sun and hair care nutrients (iron, copper, zinc, Vitamin B12, Magnesium) is recommended.

Adopting a healthier lifestyle not as a temporary measure but for life is suggested.

Everything from clothing to the ingredients used for hair care, to food consumption is suggested around one’s body type and requirements for best results.
