Dry Hair Remedies ~ Part 3

We are looking at ways to deal with dry hair in our recent posts. Following the same theme, we are going to look at more natural remedies for dry hair.

Hibiscus

Different parts of Hibiscus shrub are used for different hair and skin care applications in alternative medicine. The flowers of Hibiscus are ground to a paste and added to ½ Cup of Aloe Vera. About 2 spoons of Hibiscus flower paste is needed along with a spoon of Olive Oil. Now, apply this mixture as mask and wash off after 30 minutes.

Essential Oils

Essential oils work well to tame dry hair. Depending on the oil you choose, you can restore your hair’s shine, bounce and strength. Just massage your hair and scalp with the essential oil of your choice for a few minutes and wash off after 30 minutes. The oils recommended are Rosemary, Sandalwood, Lavender and Geranium.

Castor Oil

To ½ Cup of Aloe Vera Gel, add 1 Tsp. each of Holy Basil Leaves powder, Fenugreek powder and two spoons of Castor Oil. Mix and apply this paste as a pack and wrap your head with a shower cap. Though this can be left overnight, washing off after 30 – 45 minutes, works well enough.

Jojoba Oil

For a tablespoon of Honey, add a spoon each of Jojoba Oil, Apple Cider Vinegar, Safflower Oil and Oliver Oil. To this, add a beaten Egg Yolk and a few drops each of Neroli Essential Oil, Geranium Essential Oil and Sandalwood Essential Oil. Massage this mixture to your hair and scalp and let it sit for 20 minutes before washing off.

Lemon Juice

Lemon juice is used widely for hair care. For treating dry or dull hair, wash your hair and then, apply one spoon of lemon juice on your hair and towel dry – don’t rinse after applying lemon juice!

Papaya

Nutrient rich, Papaya are ideal for strengthening and nourishing your hair. Take one cup of pureed Papaya, one pureed Banana along with 1 cup of Yogurt. Add one Tbsp. each of Coconut Oil and Honey and mix well. Apply this as a pack and let it sit for 30 minutes before washing off.

Pumpkin

Naturally moisturizing, pumpkins can do a world of good for dry or dull hair. Bring a slice of pumpkin to boil and mash it to get a paste. Now, add a cup of Yogurt to the mashed pumpkin and apply it to your hair. Wash off after 20 minutes.

Alternatively, puree a cup of cooked pumpkin, along with a tablespoon each of Honey, Yogurt and Coconut Oil and mix well. Apply to your hair and wash off after 20 minutes.

Cocoa

A rich ingredient, cocoa power effectively combats dry hair. Just mix a tablespoon each of Cocoa Powder, Apple Cider Vinegar, Honey and ½ Cup of Yogurt. Apply this as your hair mask and wash off after 30 minutes.

Chamomile

Soothing by nature, Chamomile can work wonders for dry hair. Just prepare a tea with a tablespoon of Chamomile or use Chamomile tea bag for ½ cup of water. Add ¼ Cup of Olive Oil to the tea and massage your hair and scalp with this mixture. Wash off after 30 minutes.

Shea Butter

Rich and nourishing, Shea Butter can effectively tame dry hair by conditioning it. You can melt Shea Butter and use it as is, when warm. Alternatively, you can add 1 Tbsp. of Apricot Kernel Oil for 3 Tbsp. of Shea Butter along with a few drops of Rosemary and Lemongrass Essential Oils. Massage this into your scalp and let it sit for 30 minutes, before washing off.

Cocoa Butter, Ghee, Argan Oil are other ingredients you can use as is, or in combination with other ingredients to combat dry or dull hair.
