Tips to Tweak the Recipe
You can use any essential oil of your choice.
You can use any castile soap of your choice, unscented or scented. If you use a scented version, you can skip the essential oils. However, even with scented castile soap used, you could still add essential oils for their benefits. If that’s the case, you can choose suitable or complimenting essential oils.
This body wash is for adults, so 40 – 50 drops of essential oil should work. But if you are planning to use it for kids, halve the amount and for babies, skip it altogether or use Lavender or Chamomile essential oils.
You can also prepare your own castile soap and use it here … Want a recipe for it? We will add it soon!
What’s with the Ingredients?
Liquid Castile Soap
Have you heard about castile soap earlier? You probably did not. Castile soap, unlike other soaps, is made from Olive Oil and does not contain animal fats. Besides, it almost mimics the original soap recipe of Castile region in Spain – considered as the first hard soap, though Romans were into soap making much earlier!
It is a mild cleanser, soft on your skin and works wonders to deeply cleanse without leaving your skin dry or dehydrated. Since it does not have animal fats, it is a great vegan option for those who want to stop cruelty! Also, with castile soap added, you don’t have to add chemical foaming or soap agents to get that foam while cleansing.
Vitamin E Oil
Do you know Vitamin E oil besides the many benefits it offers, is an excellent preservative that can considerably increase the shelf life of DIY products? Besides, it helps repair and rejuvenate your skin and leaves it soft and supple. Summer or winter, this is a perfect add-on that helps your skin!
Honey
If you thought honey was gooey and will spoil the recipe, you are wrong! Honey is a very good skin moisturizer and hydrator, which attracts and retains moisture longer. It soothes dry or damaged skin and accelerates healing or abrasions and scars. For these reasons, it is good for aging or delicate skins.
It is an antibacterial and has hydrogen peroxide that disinfects wounds and reduces swelling. Now you know why your grandma dabbed it to burn wounds while cooking! It reduces skin blemishes and combats several skin issues.
Want to get the most from adding honey? Make sure it is raw, unprocessed and from the wild!
Essential Oil
You can add any skin-friendly essential oil of your choice, or pick a fragrance that you love. Many prefer lavender as it is mild, yet has loads of healing benefits. Who doesn’t love its aroma? However any essential oil should work. Choose milder oils, as some essential oils like cinnamon or mint can sting in delicate areas! Also, if you are using potent oils like cinnamon, reduce the quantity!
Oils
The key is to choose oils that are skin-friendly, loaded with healing benefits, absorbs readily and has anti-fungal and anti-microbial properties. All the oils listed above are good, so you can pick the one that is easy to find in your location, or the one you prefer!
