DIY Hair Masks for Summer

Just like your skin, hair and scalp need special care and TLC during summer. If you use styling tools, or color you hair, it is even more important to use nourishing hair packs during summer.

Caring for your hair and scalp will keep your hair healthy and lustrous. We all want our hair to be healthy, so we can style and flaunt it. Right? Scalp is an extension of your skin, so essentially needs just as much care.

When we use styling tools like straightener, curler or even color hair, it goes through a lot of changes in rapid succession and the heat and chemicals can leave hair and scalp dry. Without right pre and post care, it can cause lasting damage.

But the good thing is you can care for your scalp and hair with ingredients right there in your kitchen. You don’t need exotic ingredients for keeping your scalp and hair healthy. Here are few Hair Packs you can use to spruce up your hair during summer and keep it shining, lustrous and healthy.

Oil Pack

While it isn’t a pack technically, oil is one of the most nutritious and essential ingredients in hair and scalp care. No one, I mean no one can skip this ingredient from hair care routine. While I use Coconut Oil, for most part, any carrier oil is equally good. You can also use a combination of different oils and my favorite additions are Castor Oil and Argan Oil. Sweet Almond Oil, Olive Oil, Sesame Oil, etc. – what oil you like, find locally and use regularly, works just fine. Just massage warm oil onto your scalp and hair and let it sit for 30 – 45 minutes before washing off. This is one of the most easiest recipes and you only need oils – no mess, no fuss ☺

Banana Pack

Mash 2 – 3 ripe Bananas and add a few spoons of Olive Oil to it. Mix well and apply to your hair. Wash off after 15 minutes. This leaves your hair soft, shiny and alive. I like this pack especially when my hair feels dull, dry or dehydrated.
Rich in nutrients, this pack nourishes, moisturizes and adds shine and luster to hair in no time.

Avocado Pack

Mash an Avocado and add a spoon each of Argan Oil and Honey. Mix and apply to your hair. Let it sit for 15 minutes before washing off. This pack leaves hair lustrous, shiny and moisturized.

Aloe Vera Pack

Aloe Vera is a great ingredient for both skin and hair. This is one of my favorites during summer, especially when heat is scorching and body needs extra help to cool down. Remove Aloe Gel from Aloe Leaf and mash it. Add a few spoons of Yogurt and Fenugreek Powder to it. Mix well. Apply this pack to your hair and let it sit for 20 minutes before washing off. This not only cools down your body but also leaves your hair shiny and lustrous.
