DIY Hibiscus Hair Vitalizer

We all know Hibiscus is a very good hair food. It is one of the key ingredients in many alternative medicine preparations for this very reason. Want to know how to prepare a hair vitalizer with Hibiscus?

Taking care of oily scalp is a challenge all on its own. If that’s coupled with any further scalp problem, you have a mess in your hands! I came up with recipe having in mind multiple things – scalp oil regulation, conditioning, scalp problems like dandruff and hair growth among other things.

So, let us learn how to prepare the hair vitalizer and talk about the ingredients in detail.

Ingredients

Hibiscus Flowers – 7
Hibiscus Leaves – 5
Water – 250 Ml
Mint Hydrosol – 50 Ml
Green Tea Hydrosol – 50 Ml
Lemon Grass Hydrosol – 50 Ml

Instructions

I mentioned 250Ml because you can prepare the hydrosols at home – though you can buy them too. In that case, skip the water, or just add according to the requirement.

If you are preparing the hydrosols – just bring the water to a boil and add the ingredients to it.

For Green Tea – Bring the water to a boil, but remove from heat and wait for a bit before adding green tea. Let it sit for about 3 – 5 minutes (cover the vessel) and filter it once done. Set aside.

For Peppermint Tea – Same as above, no need for boiling with the leaves if you use fresh leaves. If you use dry leaves, you can let it boil for a minute and leave the vessel closed for a few minutes before filtering.

For Lemon Grass Tea – Bring the water to a boil, add the lemon grass leaves and let it steep for a minute. Remove from heat but keep the vessel closed till it cools down. Filter and set aside.

Use about 50 Ml of water, or less for the above mentioned teas. Now, bring the remaining water to a boil and add the Hibiscus Flowers and Leaves.

Let it boil for a few minutes in low heat – simmer.

Wait till the quantity of water is reduced to half.

Remove from heat and set aside to cool.

Add all the teas to a sterilized spritzer after they cool down completely and use as needed.

Shelf Life

Though we boil the ingredients, we’re not using any preservatives.

It is a good idea to refrigerate and remove it an hour before using.

It lasts for two weeks or more when refrigerated – I usually prepare fresh batches every week.

How to Use the Vitalizer?

Detangle your hair and part them using your comb.

Spray the vitalizer on your scalp – partitions.

Massage for a few seconds.

You can air dry and style as usual, though if you are not comfortable you can shower after an hour.

Why These Ingredients?

These ingredients work together to not only nourish the scalp and hair but also keeps dandruff at bay / in check. It regulates scalp’s oil levels, curbs hair fall and thinning of hair while promoting hair growth. If you are worried about premature greying, Hibiscus takes care of that too. Besides, it prevents build-up in scalp and conditions. What’s not to like about it?
