Who doesn’t love the fragrance of Sandalwood right? Summer is one season where additional fragrances are often a necessity, that’s how I came up with the idea of Sandalwood Hair Oil for my hair.
During summer, even when we take shower thrice a week, there are times when we feel hair is just not right. The sweat leaves it limp and sometimes you really think it needs sprucing up so it doesn’t smell. You aren’t alone and it happens to the best of us.
However, it isn’t difficult to deal with it. Adding a dash of aroma helps combat perspiration odor – this works for scalp too. Being a fan of sandalwood oil and also because it is great for hair, I chose to go with that this summer.
Let’s take a look at this hair oil – it is easy, natural and works.
Ingredients
Sesame Oil – ½ Liter
Gooseberry Powder – 5 Gms.
Belleric Myrobalan Powder – 7 Grams
Curry Leaves Powder – 7 Grams
Henna Leaves Powder – 5 Grams
Sandalwood Powder – 7 Grams
False Daisy Leaves Powder – 5 Grams
Rose Petal Powder – 7 Grams
Fenugreek Powder – 7 Grams
Instructions
In a small bowl, add all the powders and add some water to make a paste. Set aside.
In a large iron skillet, heat the sesame oil and when it is warm add the paste slowly.
Continue heating the oil in simmer.
The paste will begin to splutter and the sounds will eventually stop when the moisture is fully removed.
Remove from heat.
Let it sit in the skillet for a while – if you use iron skillet.
Filter and transfer to a sterilized jar.
How to Use the Oil?
After air-drying the hair, apply to your hair gently – massage your scalp using your fingers. Done!
For those who don’t like using oil after hair wash, use this as a pre-shower treatment. In that case, wait for 30 – 45 minutes and don’t forget to use hair wash powder or mild shampoo.
Tips to Tweak the Recipe
You can add Castor Oil if you use this as pre-shower treatment, along with Neem Oil.
You can add a dash of Spikenard Roots for added aroma and benefits.
You can also add Holy basil, Hibiscus, Margosa and other hair beneficial ingredients including Aloe Vera depending on your preference.
You can use Coconut Oil instead of Sesame Oil in this recipe.
Adding a dash of Lemon or Orange Peels adds a citrus note to the recipe and makes you feel fresh when applied.
You can add more or less of Sandalwood Powder and Rose Powder – adjust this according to your aroma preference and other ingredients you add – like spikenard.
