DIY Henna Hair Oil for Premature Greying

Premature Graying can be due to various reasons. This herbal hair oil will help counter Premature Graying and promote hair growth.

All the ingredients in this recipe are handpicked and have been used for centuries in Asian countries to counteract hair and scalp problems. This is however a simpler version of the recipe, to make it easy for everyone to follow.

Let’s take a look at the ingredients and making of the oil first.

Ingredients

Coconut Oil – ½ Liter
Hibiscus Flowers – 5
Hibiscus Leaves – 7
Onion – 3
Indian Gooseberry – 3
Fenugreek Seeds – 2 Tbsp.
Nigella Seeds – 1 Tbsp.
Henna Leaves – a handful

Instructions

Take a deep and heavy iron wok and add in the Coconut Oil.

Heat the oil in simmer while you get the ingredients ready – wash the hibiscus leaves and flowers, henna leaves, onion and gooseberry and place them on a towel to drain excess water.

Chop the onions and gooseberries into smaller pieces and set aside.

When the oil is hot add the chopped gooseberries, onions, washed henna leaves, hibiscus leaves and flowers along with the fenugreek seeds and nigella seeds.

Let the oil simmer for 15 minutes or till the oil is infused with all the ingredients. There shouldn’t be any moisture left in the oil during this stage.

When the oil turns a dark green or light black color, remove from heat and let it cool down.

When the oil is cooled down, filter the oil and store in a sterilized glass jar.

How to Use the Oil?

Apply this Oil twice a week. It is a good idea to leave this overnight and shower next morning, though for those with cold or sinus related problems could apply it 45 minutes before hair wash and shampoo their hair.

Take a spoon of oil from the jar using a dry spoon and pour the oil to your palm. Dip your index finger into the oil in your palm and rub across your other fingers to spread and warm the oil with your body heat.

Now, gently apply this oil to your scalp and massage for a few seconds.

Let it sit for a while (30 – 45 minutes, or overnight) before showering.

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

It is a good idea to add all the dry ingredients (nigella seeds and fenugreek seeds) after crushing to the oil and letting it get infused under the sun for a week or two.

Then the wet ingredients can either be ground or added as is to the remaining oil – just according to the instructions given above. Simmer till the wet ingredients are infused into the oil.

You can also add a few spoons of Castor Oil especially if you are using this as pre-shampoo oil.

Sesame Oil is a good substitute for Coconut Oil. If you don’t like or prefer Coconut Oil, Sesame Oil is ideal.

If you don’t get the fresh ingredients for this recipe, you can substitute it with powders of the ingredients – you can get dried hibiscus petals, leaves powder and henna powder. Make sure they’re organic and good quality.
