Citrus fragrances are considered as energizing or refreshing. So, I came up with this idea to use them in my hair oil to keep me upbeat throughout the day.
Besides, Citrus also offers loads of benefits including regulating sebum levels, curbing itching due to dandruff and also, keeping dandruff at bay. What’s not to like about it?
Let’s take a look at the ingredients and then, move to the recipe followed by ingredient benefits.
Ingredients
Lemon Peel Powder – 1 Tsp.
Orange Peel Powder – 1 Tsp.
Coconut Oil – 200 Ml
Essential Oil – a few drops (Optional)
Instructions
Dry the Lemon Peels and Orange Peels till they’re fully dried.
Powder them and set aside.
For every 100 Ml of Oil, you will need a spoon of this powder.
Heat the oil in low – medium flame and add the powder(s). It will fume and then, calm down.
Filter the oil and transfer to a sterilized jar.
**If you are adding Essential Oil(s), add it after the oil cools down.
Tips to Tweak the Recipe
While both Lemon and Orange Peels offer similar benefits, I combine both. However, you can use either if you prefer that way. You can skip the peel powder and go with Essential Oils alone, though I prefer adding the peel powders.
You can use any carrier oil of your choice. I recommend Coconut Oil, Sesame Oil, Castor Oil or the like – oils that can be heated up. If you want to use or add other oils like Argan Oil, add it after the mixture begins to cool down.
I add Citrus Essential Oils – to compliment and enhance the oil. I prefer Citrioda, Tangerine or Lemon, though you can use any Citrus Oil. Don’t want to use Citrus Essential Oils? Any uplifting or energizing scent like Peppermint would work just fine!
Why These Ingredients?
Dandruff can be an embarrassing problem, but do you know it can also cause degradation of your hair and scalp health in the longer run? Oh! Don’t get started on the itching and the flakes that are all over the shoulder! Even with a lot of maintenance, dandruff can often prove to be a handful!
Citrus peels are one way to curb dandruff. Both Orange and Lemon Peels can keep dandruff at bay, or cure dandruff with regular use.
How to Use the Oil?
Apply the oil at least twice a week for best results. Massage the oil to your scalp, steam and then cleanse with a natural hair wash powder or a mild shampoo after 30 minutes or more.
Last but not the least – try and see what works for you. You can use any dandruff controlling ingredients like Tea Tree Essential Oil, Wintergreen Oil, Camphor Oil, etc. Just try and see what variation works for you.
