When you want your hair to listen to you, Hair Pomade is a great choice. It makes your hair pliant and holds your style in tact for hours.
Hair pomade is a Godsend for those with unruly hair or hair that won’t just listen no matter what! Also, pomade is good for getting shiny and firm spikes and more if your hair is short.
Let’s look at the recipe first, shall we?
Ingredients
Shea Butter – 1 Tbsp.
Argan Oil – 1 Tsp.
Vitamin E Oil – 1 Tsp.
Jojoba Oil – 2 Tbsp.
Beeswax – 1 ½ Tbsp.
Pine Essential Oil – a few drops
Cedarwood Essetntial Oil – a few drops
Instructions
Melt the Shea Butter and Beeswax in your Double Boiler.
Stir every now and then so there are no pellets sticking to the sides and the melting is uniform.
Once melted add Jojoba Oil and Vitamin E Oil.
Remove from heat and let it sit for a minute or so.
The temperature will come down a little.
Now, add the essential oils and Argan Oil to the mixture.
Transfer to a sterilized jar and use as needed.
Tips to Tweak the Recipe
You can use Cocoa Butter or any other Butter of your choice including Mango Butter, Kokum Butter, Avocado Butter, etc.
You can use your choice of Carrier Oils though I prefer Jojoba Oil for this recipe because it’s a liquid Wax. In case, your resulting pomade isn’t holding that well, add a little more beeswax to fix the hold issue, in case you use other oils.
If you don’t prefer using Beeswax and want a Vegan alternative, or are allergic to Beeswax, you can choose between Candelilla Wax, Carnauba Wax or even Soy Wax.
If you are suffering from thinning hair, or hair loss, Castor Oil is a great addition to this recipe.
You can choose any essential oil of your choice. I chose Pine and Cedar for their manly aroma, though any essential oil according to your preference works. You can also choose hair beneficial essential oils like Rosemary Essential Oil, Eucalyptus Essential Oil, Peppermint Essential Oil, etc.
How to Use the Recipe?
Take a small dollop and apply on your hair strands thoroughly. Less is more – you don’t want to weigh down your hair, or make it stuffy.
Style as usual.
Shelf Life
Since the ingredients are all oils or butter, it should last well. Go with the shelf life of the ingredients you are using. I use fresh batch of ingredients so I can keep longer, though I usually prepare smaller batches.
Pomade is usually for men, but there’s nothing to say we can’t use it 😉 The best thing about this recipe is that it is kid-friendly. Just go with Lavender or Ylang Ylang Essential Oils for kids.
