Ayurvedic Hair Care by Season Part II

As a continuation of our previous post, we’re going to take a look at hair care for the remaining two seasons. Ready to know more?

Rainy Season Hair Care

Rainy season also needs special care due to moisture in air. It is easier for scalp to get greasy because moisture makes it easy for accumulation of dirt, grime and grease. That’s not all – your hair will look flat and not bounce like you want it to as it’s weighed down. It looks dull and lifeless, scalp is often itchy and hair loss is common for many. So, what should you do?

Don’t use heavy products like mousse during this season. In fact, minimize hair products usage and style treatments for now. Try using Tea Tree Oil, Lemon or even Henna to regulate sebum production during this season.

Autumn Hair Care Tips

Now, now, now – don’t shoot the messenger. Of course, hair needs special care during Autumn too! Did you think it will be any different? Known for bright colors and spring, autumn also gives you dull and dry skin.

Moisturizers or oils might be your friends. Skin can get aged look faster during this season, so soak up on your moisturizer.

According to Ayurveda, Autum is the season for Vata. The atmosphere is cool but windy, dry and unpredictable. With heater on and off in our homes, dryness is ever present. Moisture is really lacking, leaving you with a need to hydrate yoru skin regularly. Also, this is the season where skin conditions flare up – Eczema, etc.

Cracked heels, lips, dandruff, dull hair or even psoriasis and more are due to Vata imbalance. With increase in Vata, these also go up. While you can’t change your constitution, lifestyle changes can help.

Ayurveda recommends warmth for nourishment – opposites balance principle. Have you noticed you automatically opting for water-based veggies and fruits in the form of salads or juices during summers? However, during Autumn we love stews and soups, right? Have more fruits and veggies during this season and cut down on friend or drying foods. Light fruits like apples, dried fruits are also best reduced. Warm drinks are a great idea during this season but don’t reduce the intake of water. In fact, have more water during this season. Warm water is best.

Reduce caffeine and switch to Herbal Teas during this season.

Don’t cut back on good fats and make sure you’re adequately nourished internally (food) and externally (moisturizer). Love ghee? Now is the time to use it more ☺ while cooking.

Massage

Massage is for every season! A good massage can help relax and nourish your skin, while also toning your body and soothing your mind. You can go the self-massage route too.

Like every other season, exercise is very important. So, get moving!
